Important information regarding the independent nature of our directory, volunteer JP services, and accuracy of session listings.

🏛️Independent Public Directory · No Government Affiliation

JP Locator (jplocator.com.au) is an independent community service directory. This website is NOT affiliated with, operated by, endorsed by, or part of the New South Wales Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), the NSW Attorney General, or the NSW State Government.

The official, statutory register of all individual appointed JPs in New South Wales is maintained solely by the NSW Government and can be searched directly at jp.nsw.gov.au.

1. No Legal Advice Provided

The information published on this website—including guides, checklists, FAQs, and comparison tables—is provided strictly for general informational, educational, and navigational convenience. Nothing on this website constitutes legal advice, nor does it create a solicitor-client, paralegal, or fiduciary relationship of any kind.

Justices of the Peace in New South Wales are volunteer statutory witnesses. Under the Justices of the Peace Act 2002, JPs are strictly prohibited from giving legal advice, interpreting complex contractual terms, or recommending legal courses of action. If you require legal advice, please consult an Australian Legal Practitioner or contact Legal Aid NSW.

2. Operating Hours & Session Roster Accuracy

While we make every reasonable effort to cross-reference and verify desk schedules with local municipal councils, public libraries, and community centers, desk rosters are staffed entirely by honorary volunteers.

  • Sessions may be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled without notice due to volunteer illness, unforeseen emergencies, public holidays, or venue maintenance.
  • Some council venues cap the number of attendees or operate ticketed queue systems during peak hours.
  • We strongly encourage visitors traveling significant distances to contact the host library or community venue directly to confirm on-duty volunteer availability.

3. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted under Australian Consumer Law and applicable state legislation, JP Locator and its directory maintainers shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:

  • Any errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in listed session times, venue addresses, or telephone contacts;
  • Missed court, passport, property conveyance, or legal deadlines resulting from cancelled or unavailable desk sessions;
  • Any rejection or invalidation of documents witnessed by third-party individuals;
  • Any reliance placed upon general legal or procedural guidance found on this website.

4. Third-Party Websites & External Hyperlinks

This website contains hyperlinks to external web pages operated by third parties, including the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, Australia Post, local government councils, and Google Maps. These links are provided solely for user convenience. We do not endorse, sponsor, control, or accept responsibility for the content, privacy practices, or availability of any third-party website.

5. Prohibited Fees Notice

Under Section 8 of the Justices of the Peace Act 2002 (NSW), it is a criminal offence for a Justice of the Peace to charge a fee, solicit donations, or accept gifts for providing JP services. If an individual operating at any listed venue demands payment for witnessing signatures or certifying copies, do not pay and notify the NSW Department of Communities and Justice immediately.
